About the Program and Position:

Cayuga Center's Human Resources Department supports implementing the center's vision and mission, leveraging its most vital asset: its people. The Department has multiple staff members, including recruiters, benefits administrators, specialists, generalists, and assistants based in New York City or Auburn, NY.

Cayuga Centers seeks a dedicated individual for the Human Resources Generalist based in NYC to support its staff in multiple locations. Under the supervision of the Deputy of Human Resources. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day HR support of Cayuga Centers' NYC office locations. The Human Resources Generalist will partner with the Deputy for Human Resources on business strategy to support the growth and expansion of Cayuga Centers.

  • Stays apprised of all program functions, understanding the complexities of the current workforce

  • Assist as required in collecting pay-related information for accurate payroll processing.

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete personnel and benefits information in HR information and payroll systems and vendor websites

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete confidential staff files for audits

  • Communicate Benefit Eligibility with new staff and provide basic benefit information to staff

  • Prepare HR surveys and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as directed

  • Serve as a liaison and provide advice and counseling on employee relations to management and employees

  • Facilitate employee relations conversations with management and agency executive leadership as assigned

  • Assist NYC programs with employee relations, attend meetings, and, as needed, be available to program leadership for internal matters

  • Support management by communicating and counseling HR-related policies and procedures, as HR and executive leadership interpret

  • Sit on HR or other job-related committees as directed

  • Keep apprised of contractual requirements for staff qualifications and partner with the training department to administer training

  • Assist team with recruitment

    • Assist agency hiring managers in recruiting all positions by anticipating needs and coordinating administrative functions.

    • Identify hiring needs by maintaining excellent working relationships with hiring managers.

    • Call references for top candidates as requested.

    • Coordinate employee orientation process with HR staff and agency supervisors.

    • Communicating with new hires.

    • Assist with reviewing background checks.

    • Working with agency trainers to create a training schedule.

    • Ensure all new hire paperwork is received promptly and filed appropriately.

  • Responsible for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of Protected Health Information of service recipients in any form (e.g., computer access, conversation, document) during and surviving the termination, expiration, or cancellation of employment. Word processing: including responding to e-mails, composing letters, and completing computerized documentation. This involves sitting at a computer for several hours a day

Schedule: Exempt

  • Regular hours entail 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday

  • Must be flexible to meet program needs and available to work in person 5 days a week, with one work-from-home day earned after three months

  • Bachelor's degree required. SHRM CP certified required

  • Minimum five years' experience working within a Human Resources Department and knowledge of NYC and Employment Labor Laws

  • Recent recruiting background/experience using social media and ATS or CRM systems is required

  • Must be very proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace and web-based HRIS systems

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Must be able to complete tasks independently and have the ability to manage their time effectively

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and ability to work in a flexible team context

  • Ability to travel to all NYC agency locations and some trips to the other agency locations as needed

  • Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus
