Senior Scientist, Translational Proteomics

Gaithersburg, MD

Join our dedicated Oncology team at AstraZeneca, where we are driven by our ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death. We are seeking an innovative scientist to fill a unique hybrid role that combines laboratory expertise in mass spectrometry proteomics with advanced skills in data science. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics through the application of cutting-edge clinical proteomics.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you will lead design, implementation, and management of proteomics databases to organize multiple datasets derived from patient samples and clinical trials. You will serve as the primary liaison between data science teams across AZ to facilitate on-going bioinformatics collaborations with Translational Proteomics. You will also be responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing harmonized data analysis methods and visualization of different types of data within the Translational Proteomics group for biological and clinical insight.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in bioanalytical chemistry or related field with 0-3 years post-doctoral experience in quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics and/or computational proteomics.
  • Proven expertise in mass spectrometry data analysis, proteomics data interpretation, database design and implementation for translational and clinical research.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, and experience with statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Strong experience in quantitative proteomics software including Skyline, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, DIA-NN.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with a focus on translational and clinical research involving mass spectrometry proteomics.
  • Track record of publications or contributions to the clinical research database architecture.
  • Experience with automation in sample preparation and LC-MS.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (GCP/GLP).
